“Mom, I’m an expert.”

My good friend Laura called on her son’s 4th birthday – an anniversary not just his birth but the most scariest day of her life. Andrew was premature, and spent a great deal of time in the NICU in a Des Moines hospital. He underwent tons of therapy – something Laura said she is all too familiar with when reading about the kids I photographed for the Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities. Their photos were displayed as large canvas prints last weekend during the Chuck Long Sports Auction at Bettendorf‘s Isle of Capri, an event that raised about $50,000 in one night.

Andrew is now a healthy 4-year-old, a graduate of special-ed preschool and where he should be in life in every respect – and not afraid to express his opinion.

Mom, I’m an expert,” he promptly told Laura recently. Hard to argue with for a little boy who has worked hard to get where he is today. And hard work is something parents of these kids can relate to:
