Family Time at the Beach

OXFORD, Ia. – Rare is a time when you find yourself alone at the beach at 9 a.m. on a random weekday. Jeff and Carey of North Liberty, Iowa, elected to do their Holiday Card Session on such a day at F W Kent County Park’s beach with their three children: Caden, 7; Tyler, 4; and Aubriana, 21 months.

The results are a mixture of fun, kiddie independence (aka chaos), and randomness –  because the kids outnumber the grown-ups (myself excluded).

Tyler was the independent architect, ready to build sand castles and walls and be focused on his art without interruption.

I’ll call Tyler the archaeologist, digging for hidden treasure, fossils and random life forms under the sand and in the water.

And then there’s Aubriana (what a beautiful name), ready to conquer the water, yet still wanting to be near Mommy.

Getting them all together in one shot proved to be an interesting challenge, but we made it work – in direct sun at that, and with kids who would happily settled in their own imaginative worlds.

Thank you, Carey and Jeff! Here’s to more family time on the beach for everyone!
