Classics at Car Show for Kids

DAVENPORT, Ia. – I recently had a chance to shoot the 2010 Hooters Car Show for Kids, a fundraiser for the Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities. The event – organized by the Quad Cities Cruisers – was a HUGE success hosted by the Davenport Hooters restaurant. I shot this event last year, and there was no doubt this was the place to be in the QC if you love old cars. There were nearly 250 cars spread over the Northwest Bank parking lot (top and lower levels) and spilling into NorthPark Mall’s lot.

Here’s a glimpse of some of the classics that were in the show.

During the show, participants got to vote on their favorites. The top 12 will be featured in a 2011 calendar, and the cover will be the car chosen as the Kids’ Choice Award. The calendar is currently in the beginning stages of design, and is expected to be out later this year. Proceeds from the calendar sales will also go to the therapy center. Stay tuned for more on this after the calendar comes out!

Cheers,

Shuva

Hooters Calendar Wins Award (…and I had NO idea!)

A few days ago I received an email of congratulations from a confidante telling me, “Congratulations on your award! Awesome!”

I had no idea what she was talking about, thought it was a mistake and ignored it – until late last night when one of my Facebook friends did the same thing – except she told me specifics. It turns out that I, along with designer Ryan Johnson and creative genius Charlie Honold were recognized with a Bronze ADDY® Award by the Quad Cities Advertising Federation for our work on the Children’s Therapy Center 2010 Hooters Car Show Calendar. The award was presented in February, and the list of all the recipients was published recently in the Quad-City Business Journal.

The calendar was shot last September, as part of the Hooter’s Car Show for Kids – a fundraiser for the Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities.

Aside from some phone calls and emails, I worked largely independent of Charlie and Ryan on this project. The result was a very creative vintage-themed calendar using the photos I’d shot. The honor was a surprise to me as I had no idea it was even entered for any award. But the recognition by judges was greatly appreciated!

On that note, have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Hooters Car Show Calendars Are In

A few months ago I was asked to shoot a Hooters Calendar. Like any professional photographer who shoots kids, families and weddings, my first response was “What!?!” But after learning more about it, I realized: 1) it would be no different (actually easier) than shooting men doing yoga, 2) you don’t say “no” to a charity that isn’t afraid to think of out-of-the-box ideas on raising money, and 3) I (thank God!) did not have to design the calendar. That incredible task went to multimedia artist Ryan Michael Johnson for content-design company Riffle.

The Hooters Car Show for Kids in Davenport was in September – and the final product is an amazing, vintage-themed calendar that includes information about the top 12 cars, some history on cars as well as important holidays, unique celebrated days and more! I’ve posted just a few of the calendar pages below. You can purchase the entire product for $15 – all proceeds go to the Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities. Calendars are available at the therapy center, located at 1504 13th Avenue in Moline. Or you can call its office, M-F at 309-762-9552. If nothing else, it’s a great stocking stuffer or gift – especially if your special someone is into really cool cars;-)
